It’s a decision which many hosts are faced with – do I give up a lot of my time to meet and greet guests, or should I provide a secure key collection at the property? In our experience, it’s always better to see a friendly face at check-in after a long journey. A smooth start to the trip

Everybody wants a smooth check-in when they arrive at their accommodation. Whether guests have had to endure a 12 hour flight or just a half an hour train ride, they want their holiday to start as soon as possible. While there are many fantastic devices out there to help people pick up the keys to a property, it can still be a cause for concern. Even when you provide explicit instructions with the code or password to retrieve the key, you know that some guests will have trouble and have to call you up. Eliminating this process eliminates the majority of problems at check-in (such as getting frustrated at a key safe). Kick off their stay the right way!

A warm welcome

There’s nothing better than a warm welcome to your accommodation. Many guests miss the service experienced in a hotel when using Airbnb – so why not provide the best of both worlds? Arranging a meet and greet makes guests feel special, and it’s an opportunity for them to ask any questions they may have about the property or the area. Show them around the property and make them feel at home.

Of course, having a person hand over the keys is much safer than leaving them near the property to be picked up. Even though hosts take steps to keep keys secure in lockboxes, there is always a chance a criminal could take advantage – and you should also check with your insurance policy on their rules about leaving keys on the grounds for guests.
